Benefits of Rhodiola Rosea

It has antioxidant properties

Conditions such as stress, pollution, etc., result in oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is the damage to cells and vital molecules caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Antioxidants are compounds that combat the ROS. Rhodiola Rosea contains flavonoids, monoterpenes, phenolic acids, etc., which are antioxidants. They help in activating the protective machinery in the body.

Rhodiola Rosea is anti-viral

There are studies proving that it has antibacterial and antiviral properties. Rhodiola Rosea regulates the expression of certain immune-related genes thereby offering immunity. The compounds present in this root prevent the multiplication of viruses. Studies show that the Rhodiola Rosea extract delays the multiplication of viruses.

Revvs up the immune system

Upon an inflammation, there is the production of certain markers (cytokines) and cells. Rhodiola Rosea improved the function of the immune system. It also boosts the functioning of certain inflammatory markers while maintaining their levels intact.

The compounds in Rhodiolarosea help in streamlining the immune response without letting it go haywire to an auto-immune state. Another study also highlights that the hydroethanolic extract of Rhodiola Rosea at 0.1 – 100 µg/ml increased the viability of the brain cells when subjected to a toxic scenario.

They also possess anti-tumor properties. Cancer is an abnormal multiplication of cells. There are studies that report about a reduction in bladder cancer under Rhodiola Rosea. The contents of this plant enhance the factors involved in tumor cell breakdown (such as tumor necrosis factor).

The salidroside present in the Rhodiola Rosea extract lowers the cancer gene expression involved in estrogen production because certain cancers which thrive on estrogen.

Combats stress and fatigue

This helps in the production of proteins that help in coming up with the stress. There is a study related to the use of Rhodiola rosea on people working in a stressful environment. These participants were given about 400 mg per day of the extract. The study showed a noteworthy reduction in exhaustion, fatigue, and anxiety.

Salidroside in Rhodiola Rosea also enhances mood by stimulating the production of certain neurotransmitters. A study was done on individuals that had stress-related These individuals were divided into 2 groups. One group was treated with 576 mg of Rhodiolarosea and the other group was treated with a dummy drug. There was an improvement in the overall quality of life for those who were treated with Rhodiola Rosea than the ones treated with the placebo. You can also use this plant to alleviate the symptoms of depression.

It enhances the functioning of the brain

Rhodiola, a component in Rhodiola Rosea prevents nerve cell breakdown. Salidroside prevents the coating of the abnormal proteins on the nerve cells and this prevents nerve cell degeneration which is usually seen in Alzheimer’s disease. The effect of salidroside is antagonistic to the abnormal protein activity in Alzheimer’s. It also enhances the cognitive function of the brain.

Consuming Rhodiola Rosea helps in enhancing your stamina

Rhodiola consumption shows an improvement in exercise. An investigation on some participants was done with the use of Rhodiola from Rhodiola Rosea. These participants were provided with 200 mg of Rhodiola about 2 hours before the exercise test. There was an improvement in the duration of the exercise in those who consumed Rhodiola than those who did not consume it. Researches also state that Rhodiola promotes energy synthesis and also delays exhaustion.

Diabetes may be suppressed with Rhodiola Rosea

Diabetes can either be because of insufficient insulin production or insulin resistance. Upon the administration of Rhodiola, the levels of glucose transporters increased. This improves the conveyance of glucose into the cells.
