How does meditation actually work?

Meditation is the silent planner in your hectic life. Meditation has found its existence with the prevailing scenarios in every individual’s life.  It is a turn over mantra to the havoc that is present in your life. It is a structuralized and habitual process of training your mind and body. It encourages you to train your mind and focus on essential things in life. The process meditation takes its own sweet time to settle into your system but once it does it works wonders and would definitely astonish you with the very difference you feel with yourself.

Meditation can be used to sharpen your awareness of self and your surroundings. Well as Buddha says, “It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you”. Several kinds of researches and studies have shown varied benefits that are attained from meditation. It can be an ocean to venture into but this article would bring to the limelight the few major benefits of meditation that can make your life worth living.

A brief history of meditation

The practice of meditation dates as far back as 5000 BC. The practice of meditation was commonly associated with Eastern philosophies and religions which include Buddhism and Hinduism. But it doesn’t just sum up its whole references, references or inferences of meditation and the meditative process were also found in Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. Over the past several decades, the practice of meditation is increasingly manipulated and used as a secular and therapeutic activity for several individuals across the globe irrespective of the religion and denomination.

The benefits of meditation can be diversified into two major sections, one dealing with physical benefits and the other dealing with mental benefits.

The significance of meditation can be portrayed with a massive reduction of anxiety disorders, paranoid thoughts, OCD (obsessive-compulsive behaviors), phobias, and many more. For instance, yoga has been an amazing venture that has helped reduced much job-related anxiety caused due to high-pressure work environments. By controlling anxiety you also contribute to control depression and calm your stressed nerves from erupting into a pile of anxiety.

Women who are categorized under high-risk pregnancy tend to have anxiety attacks which eventually lead to blood lactate. Blood lactate is a condition where lactate that is found dissolved in blood during exercise, causing insufficient oxygen levels. Meditation during pregnancy has shown a massive change as it helps to ease the fetus in the womb and nurture both mother and child with good health.

By reducing anxiety and stress, meditation has proved to be effective in people who have cardiovascular complaints. It helps neutralize blood flow and reduces the symptoms associated with cardiovascular diseases. Meditation paves a way to reduce the strain that is caused by stress and anxiety on the heart. The high blood pressure which results in narrowing the arteries can lead to heart attacks and strokes. Meditation has proved beneficial, as it helps to relax the nerves signals and coordinating heart function in a structured manner, reduces the tension in the blood vessels, and also helps reduce the fight- or- flight response which is accountable for increasing alertness in stressful situations.

Meditation is a silent coordinator that brings your brain to rest and helps you to heal quickly and focus on the essential things needed to make life a better adventure. Meditation on a regular basis helps to sharpen your mind without causing any anxiety, tension, stress, and frustration. It increases the level of intuition and helps you gain clarity in the long run. It is a well-known remedy to increase problem-solving techniques and also gives you the attitude to see every problem on the brighter side of life.

If you are creative then you do need few minutes for meditation, as it helps to increase creativity and logical thinking by eradicating the mask of fear, anxiety, dullness, narrow-minded thinking, and a lot more.

It neutralizes the state of mind and helps you to manage pain and control it. By developing mental discipline addicts of any sort gain positive energy to control their addition and have proved to break dependencies of the addiction and free the addict.

Apart from helping them to control their addiction, meditation also helps to control the sensation of craving. It enhances the necessary willpower needed to overcome the craving and also controls the redirection of other unwanted habits.

Meditation is a state of mind

Several misconceptions about meditations have deemed it to be a form of religion; but on the contrary, meditation is an art that soothes the wrecking in your mind and brings it at ease. Meditation is not a religion or a cult practice and can be practiced by everybody regardless of their denomination they belong too or the faith their follow. The essence of meditation helps bring out a positive vibe that can be seen evidently in your behavior and thinking. By meditating you don’t just become a sight to look on for yourself but also becomes a person who contributes to the wellbeing of your surroundings.

It encourages the opens the eye of your mind and helps you learn a lot about yourself and brings out the true personal transformation when you start discovering about yourself. You create a whole new world for yourself where you find calmness, warmth, and self-control an easy venture in your day-to-day life. The impact of meditation can be seen evidently in the chooses you make and the way you start responding to complex situations. Your interactions with the world and your surrounding are shifted more effortlessly from reactivity to responding, from reflexiveness to reflectiveness, from defensiveness to openness, and from drama to calm.

It calms the raging sea of thoughts in your mind and gives you peace of mind and an unexplained peace to take life to the next step. The very scientific research of meditation is solely related to the brain and each meditation provides a different effect on several parts of the body. For instance, some meditation severe as a transportation passage to realize the inner being while others help reduce obesity, stress, anxiety and other ailments.

There is sufficient and compelling shred of evidence that “meditation is a powerful tool in managing anxiety and stress, pain relief, restful sleep, cognitive function, and physical and emotional well-being.”

Can meditation be practiced anywhere?

Yes, you can practice it anywhere and anytime. Meditation these days are digitalized and found in every aspect to make things easier for you. With this being the scenario, you may find it difficult to begin and it could be a dilemma to choose the best meditation for you. But the change begins with you. Meditation is distinguished into focused-attention meditation and open-monitoring meditation.

In a focused-attention meditation, you are taught to concentrate on a single thought, object, work, sound or visualization. This emphasizes on mind attention and reduces distraction. This form of meditation also concentrates on breathing, a mantra or a calming sound.  Whereas in an open-monitoring meditation you are trained to broaden your awareness in all respects be it your environment, thinking, and sense of self. It brings out the feeling that you have suppressed and makes you feel aware of those feelings, thoughts, or impulses related to it.

Irrespective of the form you chose meditation promotes emotional health and a balanced physical end. Meditation doesn’t require a specified space or equipment all you need to do is practice it for a few minutes a day. Well as said practice makes a man perfect, that implies for meditation too.
