What is Clenbuterol?

Clenbuterol is an anabolic agent that can improve metabolism, boost muscle growth and do away with excess fat. This is why Clenbuterol is the favorite drug among celebrities, bodybuilders and athletes. Clenbuterol is also on the radar of the World Anti-doping Agency(WADA), which has banned its use among sportsmen and athletes.   The World-Anti Doping Agency has banned the use of clenbuterol, both in and outside of competition. The directives of  WADA does not permit even a threshold level of clenbuterol in the competitors’ body. Clenbuterol is also banned for use in animals consumed by humans.

Why is WADA so uncompromising and severe with clenbuterol?

The WADA believes clenbuterol can improve and elevate sports performance. This means the drug does not positively promote the spirit of sports. There could be underlying health risks from the use /excessive use of clenbuterol among athletes and sportsmen for improving performance, which cannot be overlooked.

Clenbuterol is a powerful steroid-like chemical that increases metabolic rate and burns fat without any loss to the muscle. This drug is not a steroid but embodies properties of one.  It is similar to stimulant drugs like amphetamine or ephedrine which increase heart rate, temperature, perspiration, and blood pressure.

Initially, it was used to treat asthma in horses. By thinning the blood it reduces the blood pressure and works as a decongestant. It acts as a bronchodilator by increasing the volume of oxygen in the blood. Due to clenbuterol’s bronchodilator effects, it was used to treat nasal congestion and asthma in humans. But now, these conditions are being treated with better and safer drugs.

Clenbuterol has become more popular for its use in weight loss and bodybuilding. Many celebrities use this drug to achieve a well-toned body. Clenbuterol comes in three main forms

  • A drinkable liquid
  • An Injection
  • A pill

None of these forms of clenbuterol are approved by the FDA. While it is banned in the USA it is approved in some European and Latin American countries for treating asthma in humans. Clenbuterol is illegal for animal use in some countries.

Clenbuterol is very powerful in stimulating muscle protein synthesis. It has become a controversial drug only because of its benefit in bodybuilding and weight loss treatments.

  • The use of clenbuterol in humans and animals have caused complications. In Spain, 140 people were hospitalized in 1994 after eating meat tainted by clenbuterol.
  • In China, 336 people were poisoned after eating pork that contained Clenbuterol.
  • Athletes using Clenbuterol try to eat a diet that is high in protein, moderate in carbohydrates, and low in fat.
  • The Peking Union Medical College in Beijing, China noticed that while low doses of Clenbuterol on rabbits had minor effects, higher doses lead to increased heart rates and even death.
  • In Newton, The Department of Emergency Medicine had reported two hospital admission cases of bodybuilders aged 18 and 22 after the use of Clenbuterol. They complained of chest pain, heart palpitations, nausea, and vomiting.

Do I need a prescription?

Clenbuterol is not approved for use in humans in the United States by the FDA, so it is not classified as a prescription drug in the US. In India, China, Bulgaria, and Mexico it is still legal to use clenbuterol. It is available online, and most companies sell clenbuterol as a research chemical. Because of its easy availability and its effectiveness for fat loss and bodybuilding it has become a very popular drug. You can buy the drug online without a prescription.
